The geographical location of Latvia is extremely convenient. Its low-lying shores are washed by the waters of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga for a stretch of 500 km. Although natural bays are lacking, constructed ports have enabled the establishment of major harbors. The open sea near the shores does not freeze, allowing navigation to continue year-round in Liepaja and Ventspils. Latvia’s climate transitions from maritime to continental, situated in a temperate climatic zone influenced by the proximity of the Baltic Sea.

Among the numerous Latvian companies, there is one specializing in plastic products – LC Plast SIA. Since 2007, they have been engaged in the production and supply of plastic products throughout Europe. In the course of their work, they employ plastic processing methods such as pressure casting and extrusion. Specifically, they assist in the development and manufacturing of molds or tooling for extrusion.

Pressure casting, a technological process for manufacturing items, involves injecting liquid plastic under pressure into a metallic mold, evenly distributing it, and allowing it to solidify. It is the most common method for mass-producing plastic items. The pressure casting process requires sophisticated equipment and technical preparation, but under the control of experienced specialists, the costs are justified, yielding high-quality products.

Chillers play a crucial role in the plastic casting process, providing temperature control at various production stages:

  1. Cooling the mold: In plastic casting, a mold is used where the plastic material is melted and formed. Chillers are used to cool this mold, necessary for securing the shape and creating precise, stable products.
  2. Cooling the melted material: Before injecting plastic material into the mold, it is often melted. Chillers can be employed here to control the temperature of the melted material, ensuring optimal conditions for molding and high-quality end products.
  3. Cooling the injection block: In injection molding, where melted plastic is injected into a mold, the injection block requires a cooling system. Chillers can maintain the optimal temperature in the injection block, preventing overheating and ensuring stable process conditions.
  4. Cooling the extruder: In some casting methods, such as extrusion, chillers are used to cool the extruder, where plastic material is pressed through a mold.
  5. Controlling the mold casting temperature: After the mold is filled with melted plastic, chillers maintain control over the mold casting temperature, contributing to more even and stable material solidification.
  6. Managing the cooling process: Chillers are also used for overall management of the cooling process throughout the casting cycle, essential for maintaining stable conditions and preventing issues such as deformation, cracks, and other defects.

This is why LC Plast SIA turned to us for a high-quality chiller to further optimize their processes. Considering the company’s specific needs, our specialists recommended the SYSTEMAIR SYSCROLL 85 AIR HP EEV. This chiller, with a cooling capacity of 79.2 kW, is equipped not only with a plate heat exchanger and two Copeland scroll compressors but also with a heat pump with a thermal power of 86.9 kW. This system allows control not only over the cooling process but also over heating, aiding the material in maintaining the necessary shape and quality. It is important to note that, despite being manufactured in 2015, this mechanism had not been in operation for more than 60 hours, so our friends at LC Plast SIA received a chiller in a practically new condition. Nevertheless, our specialists conducted a thorough 7-stage inspection and configured the system to the customer’s required temperatures.
